For more than a century, building trades unions have fought to improve working conditions for all construction workers. Since its creation in 1901, the SBCTC commitment to safety has been strong and is affirmed in our Mission Statement, “The primary mission of the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California is to improve the health, jobs safety and economic conditions of the members of its affiliates, and of all working men, women and minors in the construction industry by all lawful means.”
The SBCTC is committed to protecting workers and assuring them long, healthy careers in the trades. Construction is one of the most dangerous industries, leading our nation in the number of workplace fatalities annually. But it’s not just life-threatening hazards and acute injuries that concern us; the physical demands of construction work also have long-term effects on workers’ bodies. Over the last 12 years the SBCTC has offered stand-alone training programs and materials on various topics through grant funding from federal OSHA. As more and more construction professionals embrace the internet and online resources, we have developed the Safety & Health Hub website to consolidate our own information and serve as a launching pad to other sites for all things safety. We hope this site serves your needs and we welcome your suggestions for additions and improvements.
